I always give my students an assignment over breaks. Their homework? Take a break!
The assignment used to just be, “Take a break.” Now I advise them to do what they need to do to be recharged when they come back to school. I have found that at different times getting recharged can take different things.
- Sometimes I need to sleep.
- Sometimes I need to get caught up on things on my “to do” list that have been weighing on my conscience.
- Sometimes I need to spend some time with a loved one.
- Sometimes I need to get away.
Jesus had some advice for his disciples when it comes to taking breaks.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Now my advice for my students at Bethel is to spend time with Jesus over their breaks and learn from Him what they need. He can help them recharge in a way that will more than prepare them for studies when they come back to school.
Might spending time with Jesus help you find what you need to recharge you as well?
