As a professor one of my goals is to connect Application, Research, and Theory in the different courses I teach. I developed the ART model to use in teaching and research.
As my Christian faith grew I noticed a similar goal developing. I saw the value of intentionally connecting what I believed with what I learned with what I did. This made a simple, but to me, powerful, model: Believe, Learn, Do.
I have used the Believe, Learn, Do model in a variety of ways, but it seems to capture core dimensions of following Jesus. Disciples of Jesus believe Him, learn from Him, do all for Him.
believeWhat a disciple believes is foundational. By God’s gift of grace what disciples of Jesus believe
saves and changes them. |
learn A disciple is a learner. The disciple’s task is to learn from the teacher or master in order to become like the master. A disciple’s mind as well as heart is transformed.
|
doA disciple’s behavior changes as one matures in belief and learning. Jesus promises His disciples they will do BoLD things for God’s glory as they grow in love of God and others.
