God loves gardens too. Gardens play a role throughout the Bible. This Holy Week three gardens play prominent roles. The first is the Garden of Eden. Part of God’s Creation was the beautiful Garden of Eden, home for Adam and Eve. Unfortunately, they chose to do the only thing God asked them not to do. They ate from the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3:6). They suddenly learned the consequences evil. That included having to leave the Garden of Eden.
The next garden we remember during Holy Week is the Garden of Gethsemane. In this garden Jesus agonized over the pain and death He knew He was facing to pay for the sin of all of us. Being “in agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke 22:44). And yet Jesus said, “Not my will, but yours, Father.”
And finally, on Easter we celebrate Jesus victory over sin and death as He rising from the tomb. Where was the tomb? In a garden (John 19:41).
I know that many of can feel close to God when we listen to music. Here are three of my favorite “garden” songs. I’m praying you might be blessed by these songs this Holy Week as well.
