I just met with a young man who is planning on being baptized Sunday. He is also reporting to Marine Corps boot camp next week. Those are two huge commitments!! This young man is joining two groups that transform lives. I prayed he would find Christians and Marines who would support him and challenge him to be the best man he could be.
This Sunday we will officially welcome this young man into the family of believers. May the church take seriously our commitment to him and to all fellow family members to support each other and help each other grow in faith. I told him he's joining two groups that should be there for him if he keeps his commitment to them. May us Christians do as good a job supporting him as the Marines do!
I have been so blessed with different “families” who have supported me and challenged me grow throughout my life. While this young man was raised in a good family, I pray he finds fellow Christians on the journey that will be family to him. I trust God he will. Thank you for all of you who have been that to me.
Stealing from the apostle Paul’s letters to his various church families, may God’s grace and peace be yours this Thanksgiving, and know that I am thanking God for you in my prayers.
