Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”
But Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.”
Exodus 4:10-13 (NLT)
I’m sure these flashbacks occurred because I said “yes” to an opportunity to fill a pulpit at a church that is between pastors. Being “on stage” and speaking to a group of people, especially knowing I will have to face them the next week, has raised some anxiety. Like Moses, I have thought, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.”
I am no Moses. You are no Moses. But if we have had an encountered with God, each of us is a little like Moses. We find God calling us to share something about Him or from Him to others. Like Moses, I find that a bit scary! It is easy to let my insecurities and the times my words get tangled keep me from responding.
If God is calling us to speak for Him, to a family member, a friend, a coworker, a neighbor, a stranger, or a group, our encouragement and strength is the same as Moses’. “Is it not I, the LORD? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”
Is God asking you to share a word with someone? I encourage you to be bold! God is with you.
